Case Study's

Chief Operating Officer at Apasen

Apasen are a £12 million a year turnover at home care and respite centre charity that operates across London and the wider south east. They got in touch as they needed search support for a Chief Operating Officer role that has been created just before the pandemic but had gone unfilled and remained vacant.

Through a period of discovery, we met with the Chief Executive, members of the trustee board and the senior leadership team to ensure we created a picture of the ideal candidate, but also the organisations business need. We designed the recruitment process and pack as part of the service, produced the advert copy and worked with the Chief Executive to ensure the role had good visibility.

From the follow up discovery meeting to the appointment of a candidate, who had previously been a Deputy Chief Executive at a similar organisation operating in a similar location, the process took seven weeks. We met with the Chief Executive and the trustee board several times through the process, met with over 25 candidates, used LinkedIn, our network and CRM to reach out to over 200 qualified candidates, and ensured that we encourage candidates from hard-to-reach backgrounds to apply.

Executive Director at Man&Boy

Man&Boy are a small charity with under £500,000 in turnover, have two members of staff and an active trustee board, some of whom have operational responsibility for parts of the charity. They got in touch through our network and needed assistance to appoint an Executive Director that was not in their direct network as they had made an unsuccessful direct appointed a year earlier.

This process needed us to work directly with the trustee board to understand what the operational and business needs of the organisation were and help them to understand what candidates would be available and interested in the post. Through an interesting period of discovery, we designed a process that was more in-depth and had stewardship, accessibility and outreach as its focus.

The appointment took seven weeks and we ended up appointing someone local to charity that they did not know and that had previously been the Director of SoccerAid at Unicef, someone who they never believed would be interested but as we had an in-depth understanding and good stewardship they were brought through the process.
